The Nakizumo Crying Baby Festival is an event in Japan that dates back almost 400 years. It takes place at temple in Tokyo; parents show up with their sleep-deprived, hungry babies in diapers, and hand them over to sumo wrestlers. Then, a bunch of guys in terrifying masks try to scare the babies. Whichever one cries out first is the winner and will grow the biggest and strongest, according to legend. It’s considered a blessing in Japanese culture.
