The wind was blowing out at Wrigley last night and the CUbs took advantage in a 7-2 win. Michael Tachman homered twice,  and Cody Bellinger took the first pitch he saw and put it in the bleachers. Jordan Wicks went a season high 6 innings, gave up 2 runs, and had 4 strike outs. Nico Hoerner had been hot with 8 hits in his previous 4 games, but he was held hitless last night.

Cubs bullpen has had some issues closing out game this season held the Astros scoreless over the last 4 innings. That effort dropped the Astros to 10 games under .500 for the first time since 2016. Cubs continue to climb the standings thanks in part to the Pirates who have taken the first two games of their series against the Brewers. Cubs wake up just .5 games out of first place.

Tonight is game 2 at Wrigley. Jameson Tallion takes the mound for the Cubs against Spencer Arrighetti. Arrighetti is filling in for Christain Jaiver who is on the 15 day IL. Arrighetti was rocked in his debut against the Royals, but was a bit better in start 2 against Atlanta. Tallion was fantastic in his season debut last week against Miami, he’ll look to build off that effort against an Astros line up that’s had success against him in the past. The top 4 hitters in their line up are .333 or better life time against him. In 4 games against Houston Tallion is 0-1 with an ERA of 5.18 and has given up 5 homers.
