Baseball is back! Opening Day 2024 and both the White Sox and Cubs play today (weather permitting).

The Cubs are the odds on favorite to win the NL Central this season. But according to Vegas, the +200 Cubs will have a dog fight on their hands as the Pirates have the worst odds at just +1200. That means no other division in baseball has a tighter field. Justin Steele will get the start today in Texas at 7:05. Steele was great last year going 16-5 with a 3.06 ERA. He’ll need to be as Marcus Stroman is gone from the rotation and Kyle Hendricks isn’t getting any younger.

On the hitting side, the Cubs were able to bring back Cody Bellinger which will be a huge boost. They still have solid hitting from Seiya Suzuki, and they’ll look to young guys like Morel and Horner to take steps forward.

Cubs are catching the Rangers at the right time as a lot of their big names arms open up on the DL. deGrom and Scherzer are both out til mid season. That’s big as Lorenzen and Gray are both on the report as well. The Rangers should be starting a little short handed.

As for the White Sox…It may be a rough ride. There wasn’t much they did well last season. So credit the team with trying to make some changes. They just might not be the changes you want. Tim Anderson is gone, Dylan Cease was traded in the spring. Kopech isn’t happy about heading to the bullpen, and you’ll have no idea who these starting pitchers are. Eloy was great this spring, and he’ll need to carry that over. They face a Tigers team who they went 5-8 against last season including losing 5 of the last 6. They’ll face Tyler Skubal who’s 5-2 lifetime against the southsiders. He won all 3 appearances last season racking up 23 strike outs in 18 innings over 3 games.
