Sad news today for the Purdue community as former basketball player and all time program great Terry Dischinger passed away yesterday afternoon at the age of 82. Dischinger was a Hall of Fame inductee whose name appears in the top 5 of just about every Purdue record in scoring and rebounds. His 54 career double doubles are the most in program history. He’s 6th all-time at Purdue in scoring, 3rd in scoring average,  he’s second all time in rebounds, and 1st in rebound average by almost 3 a game. No one hit more free throws then he did with 713. No one else in program history has more than 583.

After Purdue Dischinger won a gold medal for team USA in 1960. He’d be drafted first, in the second round by the Chicago Zephyrs, but would only play part time while he finished his degree from Purdue. He still won rookie of the year. The Athletic did a great story on this. He had to take a break from the NBA in 1965 to fulfil his ROTC duty. Dischinger would be stationed in Hawaii where he started to study dentistry, he’d later become an orthodontist.
