Indiana Famous: Larry Bird

Everyone who is a sports fan knows who Larry Bird is. The man who was born December 7, 1956, in West Baden Springs and went to high school at Springs Valley Junior- Senior High School where he played basketball. Bird became the all-time leading scorer during his senior year where he averaged 31 points, 21 rebound and 4 assists. 

After graduation, he chose to attend Indiana State University to play basketball. Bird led that team to a 33-0 record and a trip to the National Championship game in 1979, which was the first and only time in school history.

After his senior year, Bird then got drafted 6th overall into the NBA by the Boston Celtics. He went on to win 3 championships with them (1981,1984,1986).  

After Bird retired in 1992, he ended up coaching the Indiana Pacers for 3 seasons leading them to an NBA Finals Appearance in 2000. The NBA legend now serves as a consultant for Basketball Operations for the Pacers.
