NFL Draft Starts Tonight

By Jared Jesulaitis Apr 27, 2023 | 4:32 PM

The NFL draft kicks off tonight at 7pm from Kansas City where they expect the largest crowd ever for the event. You can listen to coverage on 101.7 FM “The Hammer” locally or stream it here.

What you need to know…

Round 1 starts tonight. The Colts have pick #4, while the Bears have pick #9….for now. This draft is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in recent memory. No one seems 100% sure on the first pick by Carolina, although its most likely a QB and experts seem to think it’s Alabama’s Brice Young

The Texans pick second and have 2 first round picks. Experts seem divided on what they will do. They too need a QB but could wait til later in the round. If so that opens up a door to some potential chaos with the Cardinals possibly trading out of the 3rd spot.

The Colts will most likely get Will Levis or Anthony Richardson. Despite the chaos that could happen, or couldn’t, the Colts seem poised to get the 3rd QB in this draft, whomever that might be.

The Bears could trade back. Depending on the QB market, this could allow the Bears to trade back and acquire more picks. They already traded with Carolina for the #1 over all pick. They aren’t in need of a QB and could make a pick for a linemen, or trade back. They really have a luxury with this pick of sitting back and seeing what the draft gives them.

No Purdue players expected to get drafted tonight. Although they do have 5 in the Draft, they might not hear their names til tomorrow or Saturday. According to Tom Dienhart of Gold and Black, CB Corey Trice is likely the first name called, although WR Charlie Jones may hear his before that. Others looking to find homes are TE Payne Durham, LB Jalen Graham, and QB Aiden O’Connell
