A rough week for the northsiders as the Cubs lose 3 of 4 in Milwaukee with yesterday’s 6-4 loss. The bullpen taking most of the heat from fans right now, Jameson Taillon was off the hook for the loss despite giving up 3 runs. Suzuki homered in the 7th to tie it, but the Brewers would respond. In the top of the 8th, Morel homered to tie it once more, but the brew crew would retake the lead in the bottom of the 8th for the win.

That series cost the Cubs dearly as they slide into 3rd in the division, 5.5 back from the Brewers. Cubs have lost 7 of their last 8 now and head home for a weekend series with the Reds. For as much heat as the bullpen has gotten, the offense has been off the last 2 weeks. The Cubs are dead last over the last 15 days in team batting average, on base percentage, slugging, OPS, 4th worst in RBIs, 4th worst in home runs, and 3rd worst in extra base hits.

Javier Assad will take the mound this afternoon against Graham Ashcraft. Assad has never picked up a win against the Reds, but he hasn’t given up a run in his last 2 starts against Cincy. Meanwhile Ashcraft has lost 5 of his 6 starts against the Cubs, and owns a lifetime 9.45 ERA against Chicago.
