Matt Painter has done it again! Incoming Freshman Daniel Jacobson (7’3 by the way) has made Team USA U18 squad. Myles Colvin, Caleb Furst, and Jaden Ivey have all been on that squad in the past. Zach Edey did so for Canada. It’s an enormous honor to be selected.
Jacobson will be here in the fall, but he turned heads recently in Colorado at camp for Team USA.
“Purdue-bound Daniel Jacobsen has been the best player on the floor for long stretches at USA Basketball so far. Putting a lid on the rim at 7’3 w/mobility and timing. Quick off his feet for finishes. Skillful in the paint. Takes hits and keeps coming. Impressive two day stretch.” – Jonathan Givony
“The most pleasant surprise, however, has been Daniel Jacobsen. The 7-foot-3 big man, who finished his high school career at Brewster Academy, has long been known as an intriguing long-term prospect because of his great size and developing skill.
Physically though, Jacobsen has been a work in progress. He is often content to try to show his three-point shooting. But so far in Colorado, Jacobsen has been asserting himself around the rim, and been as impactful as maybe anyone in the field. He’s playing with more athleticism, finishing hard above the rim, battling for real estate in the post, contesting plays defensively, and rim-running. In short, Jacobsen made a big impression and only added to the optimism about what he can become at Purdue given their pedigree for developing big men.” – 247 Sports
Fun facts, Matt Painter leads the selection committee (people watching practices, however, say Jacobson is a clear cut starter) and former Purdue assistant and current Notre Dame HC Micah Schrewsberry is an assistant on the team this year.
