Men’s golf is off to the National Championship after finishing second in their Regional hosted at Kampen-Cosler. Purdue was within 1 shot of leader Vanderbilt, the 2nd ranked team in the country. Rain forced the start times back a bit this morning, but the Boilers held strong. Vanderbilt went -8 on the day, and that was too much for the Boilers to catch. Still, they held on to second by a margin of 7 strokes over Florida. They Boilers came in as the 5 seed and they leave in second and a trip to the natty.

Kent Hsaio was the leader coming into today, but struggled shooting seven over. An even round today would have kept him at the top of the board, but still had a top 20 finish at 17th. Herman Sekne made the biggest climb today and finishes 4th just 2 strokes off the lead. Sekne had a shot at birdie on 18, but the putt came just a bit short of the cup. But it was the double bogey on 12 that kept him off the podium and in the top spot. Nels Suranti carded a top 10 finish as well for the Boilers.

Up next is the National Championship May 24-29 in Carlsbad California. They’ll play the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa (North Course).
