Ever wonder how the song “One Shining Moment” became the soundtrack to the NCAA Tournament highlight reel? It happens that musician David Barrett wrote the lyrics after a trying to explain the “poetry of basketball” to a waitress at a bar. After she left and filled with inspiration, he quickly wrote the words to the song on a napkin and added music the next day. CBS found out about the song and originally was going to use it for the Super Bowl but fate pushed it back creating the tradition that continues through today.
