Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for her new song “Feather” has caused a Brooklyn Catholic Church to hold a special Mass to re-bless their altar.
Daily Mail reports a portion of the music video was filmed at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. In the video, Carpenter is seen walking into the church, moving around several pastel colored coffins up near the altar, and dancing at the front of the church.
Bishop Father Robert Brennan was reportedly “horrified” by the video’s contents. In a statement, the bishop said, “The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on Church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script” adding the production company “failed to accurately represent the video content.” However, an investigation into the documents found a sufficient descprition of “inappropriate behavior unsuitable for a church sanctuary.” Bishop Brennan announced that Monsignor Jamie Giantiello was removed from his position at the church, but will remain the church’s pastor.
Both the bishop and monsingor held a Mass of Reparation, where the bishop re-blessed the altar with holy water, restoring “the sanctity of this church and repaired the harm.”
