Lizzo has been hit with another lawsuit from a former employee.
PEOPLE reports Asha Daniels filed the lawsuit on Thursday (Sept. 21) in Los Angeles claiming Lizzo, her production company, wardrobe manager Amanda Nomura, and tour manager Carlina Gugliotta made racist and “fat-phobic” remarkds and denied Daniels medical care, leading to anxiety and PTSD.
Daniels told NBC News, “I felt like I was living in a madhouse. It was totally shocking. I was listening to this Black woman on this huge stage have this message of self-love and caring for others and being empathetic and being strong and standing up for others. And I was witnessing myself, the dancers and the background vocalists and my local team in every city be harassed and bullied regularly.”
According to the documents, Daniels designed custom pieces for Lizzo’s dancers on her tour in September 2022. She was later asked to join the tour to help with the up-keep of the costumes. The filing adds Daniels took her concerns of alleged “racism and bullying” to Nomura, but was told to leave it alone. Asha also accounts more instances of alleged harassment.
A rep for Lizzo said in a statement to PEOPLE, “As Lizzo receives a Humanitarian Award tonight from the Black Music Action Coalition for the incredible charitable work she has done to lift up all people, an ambulance-chasing lawyer tries to sully this honor by recruiting someone to file a bogus, absurd publicity-stunt lawsuit who, wait for it, never actually met or even spoke with Lizzo. We will pay this as much attention as it deserves. None.”
