A long time downtown favorite is set to close it doors. Sgt. Preston’s, opened since 1980 will be shutting it doors.  The restaurant released this statement on it’s Facebook Page today.

“Sgt. Preston’s of the North opened its doors on November 21, 1980. In the last forty-two and a half years, we have been a staple in the downtown area. We appreciate all our downtown neighbors and we are grateful we were part of the amazing growth in the heartbeat of the city.
We have served too many Preston burgers to try to count, even more Lambo wings and brought you back week after week for our Prime Rib. So many of you spent your Mondays sipping on Lafayette’s Original Schooners and who doesn’t love relaxing on Indiana’s largest outdoor patio.
A new owner has purchased the John Purdue Block Building from us, along with our restaurant space. We would like to announce that we will be permanently closing our doors at the end of May. We have made the decision to decrease our workload in hopes that we can move towards a more relaxed phase of life. We want to thank you all so much for your loyalty, support, and your incredible friendships. We want to thank all our past and present team members as you were a huge part of our continued success. We truly cherish the memories that we have made together.
The John Purdue Block Building has been many things throughout its years and our time here is just a chapter in its story. We are excited to see what it will become next.
Our sister businesses, Old Buffalo’s Bar and Grill, with a brand-new outdoor patio to be completed soon, and The Outpost Catering and Banquet Hall, will continue to thrive on Old 231 South. We will look forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
Doug and Karen”
Sounds like you have between now and Memorial Day weekend to get back down there for old times sake.
