The Chicago Bears recently purchased a large chunk of property up in Arlington Heights. The goal was to eventually build a new stadium. Now, the city of Chicago would like to keep the Monsters of the Midway with a new stadium update of their own. And it’s willing to spend 2.2 billion dollars to do so. That would make it the 2nd most expensive stadium behind So-Fi Stadium in LA, which comes in at 4.9 billion. No other NFL stadium has been built for more than 2 billion. Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas) came in at 1.9 billion and it’s the newest of the bunch.
So, what would you get for 2.2 billion? How about a dome? That’s right, a dome in Chicago! No more cold weather, no more snow, no more 50 mph wind gusts. They’ll quadruple the amount of food and beverage space. seating increased from 61,500 to 70,000. The number of private suites would be increased from 133 to 140. New fancy clubs and hang outs. A new transit hub so you can take the train in. Check it out.
In an effort to keep the Bears downtown, the City of Chicago has released a video showcasing its proposed $2.2B renovation to Soldier Field.

Now the Bears are already close to 200 million into a new stadium just on the land they bought in Arlington. Is this enough to get them to reverse course? I hate it just from the dome aspect of it. Chicago and no weather? Come on! If they were to go thru with this, that would leave the Packers as the only outdoor stadium in the division as the Vikings and Lions both play in domes. Outside of that, I can’t say that this video gets me that excited.
