Alaska Snow Crab Season Canceled Again

By Bryan McGarvey Jan 5, 2024 | 3:29 AM

Are you a fan of the series ‘Deadliest Catch’, well, you may have to wait even longer because for the second straight year, Alaska will not have a snow crab season. It has to do with a snow crab population that has dramatically decreased over the years. In 2022, biologists found about 90-percent of the crustacean population had vanished. They hoped a year without harvesting crabs from the Bering Sea would help the population rebound, but the numbers are still very low. The fishing community is still trying to grasp how the snow crab population essentially vanished in the area.
