Football Sectionals Quarter Finals Preview

By Jared Jesulaitis Oct 20, 2023 | 9:06 AM

There’s just 2 games tonight as Harrison, McCutcheon, and Lafayette Jeff all have the night off due to their Sectionals only having 4 teams in them. So that just leaves 2 local teams and both just happen to be playing at home! So get out tonight and support local high school football. Don’t forget we’ll have West Lafayette and River Forest tonight with a pregame show that starts at 7pm, and kick off at 7:30 on 101.7Fm The Hammer, the Hammer Mobile App, or online here.

*Game of the Week*

River Forest (6-3) vs West Lafayette (6-3)

Sectional 25 Bracket

River Forest comes down from Hammond to take on the Red Devils in the first round of Sectional 25. The Ingots boast a 6-3 record, but they’re just 1-3 against 3A opponents this season (with a loss to Griffith, who is a potential 2nd round opponent) In fact, they have just 1 win over a team above .500 on the season, and that’s 2A Wheeler.  Led by Junior QB Ayden Silver, you’ll see an offense that likes to run with it’s QB more than pass, although they can certainly do that as Silver averages about 100 yds passing per game.  This isn’t a team that’s face a lot of good competition, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be a problem. The common theme in their losses? Their defense allowing multiple scores. The Red Devils should have won last week in the down pour. But dumb penalties at the wrong time and poor discipline on special teams cost them the Hoosier title. Are they will to fix those issues tonight? Red Devils will be the favorites at home.

Players to Watch:

Carson Kitchel: 147-228 1849 yds 17 TDs 5 INTs

Dawson Martin: 160 carries 814 yds 11 TDs

River Forest (6-3) vs West lafayette (6-3)

Sectional 34 Bracket

This Sectional sets up perfectly for the Knights. You get a great matchup at home vs the Warriors. One that you should walk away with. You get another game to get Mason Meister back into the flow. Then you get to host #10 Rochester. Perfect. The Warriors will bring some fight, no doubt. But they’ll be outmatched in this one. This CC defensive unit has been outsitand down the stretch.  They’ve given up just 14 points in the last 3 weeks and are allowing just 8 ppg over the 5 game winning streak. Those 3 losses all came to some darn good 3A teams in West Side, Guerin, and Heights who are all top ten teams. But CC doesn’t have to be the best in 3A, they gotta be the best in 2A. They get a team they beat 52-8 last season in the Sectional opener, and they look poised to do that again. Get in, get the clock running, and get on to planing for Rochester next week at home.

Players to Watch:

Bobby Metzger: 175-281 1801 yds 21 TDs 6 INTs

Mason Meister: 60 carries 375 yds 6 TDs

Alex Hardebeck : 21 catches 301 yds 6TDs
