High School Football Rankings Are Out

Aug 8, 2023 | 8:59 AM

Indiana Football Coaches Association announced it’s week 1 rankings for High School Football in the state of Indiana. With week 1 starting August 18th, football is back and you’ll be able to hear it on 101.7 The Hammer all season long. While none of our area teams are ranked #1, several made the top 10. The highest ranked team is West Lafayette who comes in #2 in 3A, Chatard (who the Red Devils lost to in the Semi State, and would go on to win the state title) took all 10 #1 votes.

Central Catholic finds themselves in 4th in class 2A. Knight’s went 9-4 last year with a Regional loss to Andrean (#5). They’ll open their season at home against Seeger next Friday. Neither the Knights or the Red Devils have a team in the top 10 in their sectionals.

Lafayette Jeff received some votes in the 6A poll, but not enough points to crack the top 10 which looks to be dominated by Center Grove. Jeff is coming off it’s best season in nearly 20 years after finally winning a sectional title, but losings by a point in the regional.

Harrison got a little love in the 5A poll sliding into the 10th spot. Raiders looked to be a team to be reckoned with last season, but lost in the Sectional opener to Plainfield. That’s 3 straight first round exits by the Raiders after winning back to back sectional titles. They open their season at home hosting West Lafayette next Friday. McCutcheon did not receive any votes in the 5A poll as they look to improved under Coach Josh Strasser in his second season. They’ll host Guerin Catholic for their opener, 1 of just 4 home games this season for the Mavs.
