The drama continues in Chicago on where the Bears will build a new stadium. Now it appears Waukegan has thrown it’s hat in the ring.
Waukegan makes a pitch to the @ChicagoBears, offering “multiple large parcels, including lakefront property” that could be developed into a new stadium and entertainment district. So if you are behind on the drama here: The Bears want a new top of the line stadium to maximize their revenue. Chicago wasn’t going to build them one. So they bought the old Arlington Park race trace to demo and build a new stadium themselves. Then Chicago came up with 2 billion to put a dome on Soldier Field and increase the seating. Bears weren’t impressed. Then, as work started on the Arlington property, Cook county showed the Bears the tax bill. That led to the Bears talking to other towns about space, like Naperville. Now Waukegan has entered the chat, but we’ve seen these ovatures before in Bears history. They always seem back at Soldier Field. That’s what the City/County want most. Could you the Bears in Waukegan? To me, it’s back downtown or the new Arlington property. I don’t see it happening anywhere else.
