This is not a huge surprise. Zach has the ability to go into the draft, do the work outs, meet the team, and get the feedback. You’d be silly not to take that opportunity. So what this means is he can do all the pre-draft stuff, but he can’t hire an agent, and he has to withdraw his name by May 31st if he wants to come back to Purdue. The week prior, the NBA has a combine work out. That should be the last bit of info he needs to make a decision.
There’s also the money side of things. Staying at Purdue, Zach would still be able to make good NIL money, but it wouldn’t be NBA money. That’s assuming he wouldn’t end up in the G-league. That paycheck might actually be a step down for him. So this process will help him decide what’s best for his future, and getting the feed back he’ll need to be a successful NBA player.
