Purdue men’s basketball star Zach Edey was announced as the Associated Press men’s college basketball player of the year.

The junior center was a near-unanimous winner, receiving all but one of the 58-person media panel’s votes.  The other vote went to Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Edey told the AP, “It kind of validates your work a little bit. The last three years I’ve played here, I’ve seen my game grow every year. AP player of the year is a great feeling, it just kind of stinks the way the season ended.”

Edey was aslo named unanimous AP All-American and Big Ten player of the year.
