Skating legend Tony Hawk is making a replica of the skateboard that Kurt Cobain painted with an Iron Maiden logo to raise money for two charities.
Hawk bought the deck last year and went to Seattle to meet with Kurt’s sister Kim Cobain and childhood friend Cameron Ross, who originally owned the deck, to get their permission to re-create it for charity. Check out a video of his visit on Instagram.
Proceeds from the replica sales will be split between the Jed Foundation and The Skatepark Project to provide resources for those struggling with mental health, and to create more public skateparks in underserved areas.
Cobain, who killed himself in 1994, would have turned 56 today (Monday).
