Jeremy Renner was saving his nephew from being hit by his snowplow on New Year’s Day.

According to a Washow County Sheriffer’s Office report obtained by CNN, Renner failed to engage the parking brake while trying to stop his snowcat from hitting his full grown nephew.  The plow was sliding sideways as he was pulling his nephew’s truck out of the snow.  “The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” according to the report.  The Hawkeye star attemped to re-enter the cab of the plow by climbing onto its moving track, causing him to be pulled under the plow.

The report filed Friday (Jan 20) adds, “Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.”

The incident reports also notes that the brake indicator light was not functioning, and “mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident.”  Renner’s nephew assisted him until help arrived.
