Ellie Goulding put to rest a years-old rumor surrounding Ed Sheeran and Niall Horan.
Goulding shared a video of herself on TikTok dancing to Harry Styles’ “As It Was”. One user commented, “can’t belive u cheated on ed with nial but slay fr.” Ellie replied, “False!!!!! But also slay.”
According to E! News Goulding and Horan sparked romance rumors in August 2013 after U.K.’s The Mirror reported the two were spotted showing PDA at the V Festival in England. A week later she was seen holding hands with Ed Sheeran at the MTV VMAs. Ellie tweeted, “I love that holding hands with my friends means we’re an item. In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef–k.”
Sheeran felt that the two were more than just friends. He said during an interview, “I mean, normal people don’t hold hands if they’re just friends.” He added, “It was going on. And now it’s not.”
In 2014 Sheeran relased “Don’t”, which fans speculated was about Goulding cheating on him with Horan. The singer told Entertainment Weekly that while a British newspaper printed his song was about Goulding and Horan, he “never actually confirmed it.”
