Shakira opens up about “one of the most difficult, darkest hours” of her life.

In a recent interview with Elle, the singer talks about her split from husband Gerard Pique.  In June, she announced the split from Pique after 11 years together.  She said, “I’ve remained quiet and just tried to process it all. Um, and yeah, it’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation.”

Shakira, also, mentioned how tough it has been for their two sons, Milan (9) and Sasha (7).  She said, “It’s really upsetting for two kids who are trying to process their parents’ separation. And sometimes I just feel like this is all a bad dream and that I’m going to wake up at some point. But no, it’s real. ”

Shakira is also facing up to eight years in prison after the Spanish government accused her of tax fraud.  They claim Shakira was a resident of Spain from 2011 and 2014 and failed to pay the Spanish government 14.5 million euros ($15 million).  Shakira believes the accusations are fale.  She said, “First of all, I didn’t spend 183 days per year at that time at all. I was busy fulfilling my professional commitments around the world. Second, I’ve paid everything they claimed I owed, even before they filed a lawsuit. So as of today, I owe zero to them. And finally, I was advised by one of the four biggest tax specialist firms in the world, PricewaterhouseCoopers, so I was confident that I was doing things correctly and transparently from day one.”
