Most Americans admit to not knowing what a ‘Rickroll’ is

Rickrolling has been around since 2008 and is still popular around the net. Well, maybe not as popular as we thought. Many Americans admitted to not knowing what a Rickroll is.

The term is, according to Wikidedia, is a “type of bait and switch using a disguised hyperlink that leads to the music video” Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. The song was Rick’s most popular track in the ’80s. While widely known as a novelty song it has grown in popularity again thanks to Rickrolling.

The YouGov poll found that 62% of Americans say they don’t know what Rickrolling is, 31% saying they do. A majority of those who didn’t were over the age of 35.

  • 35-44: 56%
  • 45-54: 66%
  • 55+: 84%

Those under 35 knew the term well:

  • 18-24: 55%
  • 25-34: 53%
